K-cup Roaster SpotLight - Diedrich Coffee
Diedrich Coffee was founded as a neighborhood coffeehouse by Martin Diedrich. According to Diedrich Coffee's website, "Diedrich Coffee continues a rich tradition and pride for growing, selecting and roasting some of the finest coffees in the world, and serving them fresh at coffeehouses that reflect the warmth and down-to-earth feeling one gets from drinking a fine cup of coffee."
Today Diedrich Coffee, Inc. is a specialty coffee roaster, wholesaler and retailer. It's brand include some of my personal favorite coffees including Diedrich Coffee, Gloria Jean's Coffee, and Coffee People.
Interestingly, the majority of Diedrich Coffee Inc's revenue is generated from wholesale customers located across the United States. Certainly K-Cups have added a great deal in the past few years!
Diedrich provides some extraordinary roasts that range from light to dark as most other K-Cup Roasters yet they have not produced many BOLD coffee varieties. In terms of coffee roasts, Diedrich's website eloquently states...
"At Diedrich Coffee, we use four general roast categories to discover the perfect roasting time and temperature for each specific bean: light, medium, full and dark. Beans are roasted at temperatures between 425 and 475 degrees to develop the flavor in the hard, raw green bean. We do this with exacting care, because this is the Art of the Master Roaster. Even the best beans in the world can be ruined, if they are over or under roasted." (check out the fascinating details here.)
One of my new favorites from Diedrich's is the Italino Classico dark roast K-Cup Coffee. I will save the details for a review but it is delicious. Other K-Cup flavors I have tried and liked from Diedrich include:
Morning Edition
French Roast
Sumatra
100% Columbia
Paradiso House
I prefer Diedrich's roasts over many of the other roasters specifically when it comes to light and medium roasted coffee. As I mentioned, the Morning Edition, Columbia and Italino Classico have superb flavors, balanced taste profiles and a special richness that I relay enjoy. Although I would select Timothy's or Green Mountain for their BOLD coffee K-Cups, I would give Diedrich the prize for their splendid light and medium roasts. Although with Diedrich also controlling Gloria Jean's and Coffee People, my preferences become more conflicted because I love many different K-Cups from Gloria Jean's and Coffee People including some BOLD coffees!
Wow - so much delicious K-Cup coffee and so little time. What's a coffee addict to do???

He applied an empirical approach to his experimentations while making use of mail- order green coffee beans, store- bought roasters and other rigged- up bean- cooking contraptions. After a few years of focused tinkering, Adler had ...
